Privacy & Cookies Policy

Last updated: 8 January 2026
Jan Falconer Author (“we”, “us”, “our”) respects your privacy and values the relationship we have with you. This policy explains how we collect, use and protect personal information when you use our website and related services.
1. Who we are
This website and the related membership areas (Sukie’s Family Club and the Teachers’ Hub) are operated and managed by Kirkatoft Group (UK) Limited (the “Company”) trading as Jan Falconer Author. For UK data protection law, the Company is the data controller for the personal information described in this policy.
Contact (privacy enquiries): info@kirkatoftgroup.co.uk
2. What this policy covers
This policy applies to personal information collected through our website (including any members-only areas), forms, competitions or giveaways we may run, email communications (if you choose to receive them), and any other services that link to this policy (together, the “Services”).
We are not currently selling products directly through the website. If this changes (for example, if we sell digital downloads or take payments), we will update this policy.
3. Information we collect
Information you give us:
• Membership/club sign-up information (for example: name, email address, and which membership option you select).
• Enquiry information (for example: if you contact us by email or through a form).
• Competition/giveaway information (for example: contact details and any information needed to administer the competition).
• Content you choose to share with us (for example: messages, feedback, testimonials, or photos you have permission to provide).
Information collected automatically:
When you visit our website, we (and our website platform provider, Wix) may automatically collect limited technical information, such as your IP address, device and browser information, pages viewed, and how you interact with the site. This information is used to help run the website securely and understand how it is used.
Email engagement data (if applicable):
If we send you emails and you choose to receive them, we may be able to see whether an email was opened and whether links were clicked. We use this information to improve the usefulness of our communications.
4. How we use your information and our lawful bases
UK GDPR requires us to have a lawful basis for using personal information. We use personal information for the purposes below:
• To administer memberships (Sukie’s Family Club / Teachers’ Hub) and provide access to resources. Lawful basis: Performance of a contract (providing the service you ask for) and/or legitimate interests (running our services).
• To respond to enquiries and communicate with you about your request. Lawful basis: Legitimate interests (answering questions and providing support) and/or performance of a contract.
• To run competitions/giveaways (where offered), including contacting winners and administering entries. Lawful basis: Legitimate interests and/or performance of a contract; and where required, consent.
• To improve the website and understand how it is used (for example, using analytics where enabled). Lawful basis: Legitimate interests; and for non-essential cookies/technologies, consent via our cookie banner.
• To send newsletters or marketing emails (only if you opt in). Lawful basis: Consent (you can withdraw at any time).
• To protect the website and our community (security, fraud prevention, and misuse). Lawful basis: Legitimate interests and/or legal obligation.
5. Who we share information with
We do not sell your personal information. We may share it with trusted service providers who help us run the website and deliver the Services, for example:
• Wix.com (website hosting and related website services).
• Email and marketing tools (only if we use them and only to send communications you have requested/opted into).
We may also share information where required by law, to protect our rights, or to investigate and prevent misuse of the website.
6. International transfers
Some of our service providers (including Wix) may process personal information outside the UK. Where this involves a “restricted transfer”, we take steps to ensure appropriate safeguards are in place (for example, contractual safeguards such as standard contractual clauses and additional protections used by our providers).
7. How long we keep information
We keep personal information only as long as necessary for the purposes described in this policy. In general:
• Membership records: for as long as you remain a member, and for a reasonable period afterwards for administration and audit purposes.
• Enquiries: typically up to 24 months after the last contact, unless we need to keep it longer (for example, to resolve a dispute).
• Competition records: for the duration of the competition and a reasonable period afterwards to administer it and meet legal requirements.
We may keep anonymised or aggregated statistics for longer, where they no longer identify individuals.
8. Your rights
You have rights under UK GDPR, including the right to access your personal information, ask us to correct it, ask us to delete it, object to or restrict certain processing, and (where we rely on consent) withdraw consent at any time.
To exercise your rights, or to opt out of emails, contact us at info@kirkatoftgroup.co.uk. You can also complain to the UK Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) if you have concerns about how we use personal information.
9. Children and photos
Our website and memberships are intended for adults (parents, carers, teachers and supporters). We do not knowingly collect personal information directly from children. If we become aware that a child has provided personal information without appropriate consent, we will delete it.
Where we publish photographs that include children (for example, from schools or libraries), we do so on the basis that the organisation providing the photographs has obtained the necessary parental/guardian permissions. If you believe an image has been posted without appropriate consent, please contact us and we will investigate promptly.
If we run online events with schools (for example, via Zoom/Teams), they are arranged via the teacher/school and we do not request pupil images. Any safeguarding arrangements remain the responsibility of the school/setting.
10. Cookies and similar technologies

Types of cookies we may use:
• Strictly necessary cookies: required for the website to function and for security.
• Preferences cookies: remember choices you make (where enabled).

Please note: blocking certain cookies may affect how well the website works.
11. Links to other websites
Our website may contain links to other websites (for example, social media platforms or booksellers). We are not responsible for those websites’ privacy practices. Please read their privacy and cookie policies.
12. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. The “Last updated” date at the top shows when it was most recently revised. If we make material changes, we will post the updated policy on the website.
